Shoulder Pain

Shoulder pain is a normal part of some people’s daily activities. Sometimes their pain comes from moving their shoulder. There are other people who experience shoulder pain all the time whether they move their shoulder or not. People should not have to endure pain from their shoulder on a regular basis. With a little research many of today’s causes of shoulder pain can be explained and even fixed. It is not necessary for a person to live with pain. Knowledge of the pain in their shoulder, when applied, is power. The power can then be used to find treatment for it.

Chronic and Acute Shoulder Pain

Shoulder pain is usually the term that is used when people describe pain in the joints and muscles surrounding their shoulder. The pain can either be chronic or acute. Chronic pain is constant pain that has slowly built over time. Many times chronic shoulder pain is a result of repetitive wear and tear on the joints. There are many diseases that cause this type of shoulder pain. Acute pain is the type of pain that has its onset from an injury. Many athletes will end up with this type of pain from a trauma during a contact sport.

Causes of Shoulder pain

Most pain in the shoulder is the result of the tendons or soft tissues around the shoulder and not of the actual bone. This can be broken down into 2 basic types of pain. The first is tendon related, and included tendonitis. This is the inflammation of the tendons. The tendons are cords that are the connecting force between muscle and bones. The second type is bursitis. This is the inflammation of the bursa. A bursa is a sac of fluid that is located around all of the joints of the body. These sacs help to lessen the friction that is caused by the movement of the joints.

Many people ignore shoulder pain and do not seek medical attention for the pain. The choice to ignore temporary pain that is only mild may result in any long-term problems. When the pain is intense in the shoulder, a person should seek medical attention more urgently. The pain could be a symptom of a larger problem. Shoulder pain that persists can cause more harm if not properly treated by a doctor, physiotherapist or osteopath.

Don't ignore Shoulder Pain

Shoulder pain should never be ignored. The pain can be a sign of a serious problem. A medical diagnosis is needed to choose the proper level of treatment to alleviate pain in the shoulder. Knowledge of what types of shoulder pain there is and where the pain is originating from will help the patient communicate with their doctor to find the cause of their pain. Once the cause of the pain is found, then the treatment can begin. It is only through treatment that shoulder pain can be taken care of. Living with pain is not necessary when one knows the facts.
