What Pillow should you use for Shoulder Pain Relief?

If you sleep on your back, in most cases one pillow is sufficient to support the head and neck. However, if you sleep on your side, you should use a higher thicker pillow, or use two pillows.
I actually ask my patients to bring their pillows in to look at how they are sleeping so I know exactly what width the pillows should be.
Keep the neck in a neutral position
The skill is to allow the neck to be kept in a neutral position. If the pillows are too low, the neck bends as the head drops below the shoulder. Too high, and the neck bends the other way as the head rises above the shoulder.
I recommend [easyazon-link asin=”B001W8XMZE”]Tempur-Pedic[/easyazon-link] pillows for absolute comfort. Good Tempur-Pedic pillows are expensive, but how much is a good night’s sleep worth?
