MRI to Diagnose Shoulder Pain

MRI’s are the gold standard diagnostic tool to tell you what’s wrong with your shoulder. If you have shoulder pain, then an MRI is a great way to go about finding out the cause of the pain.

MRI stands for Magnetic Resonance Imaging and you basically go through a tube like scanner which aligns the magnetic particles in the body and then prints a picture.

It shows up the tendons, ligaments, muscles, discs and nerves which gives us all the information we require.

Now in most cases, its not that easy to get an MRI – you won’t be allowed in the UK to turn up to a hospital and ask for a scan. If you chose to pay for a scan, you can do privately by seeing a good osteopath or physio. If not, see your GP who will need to refer you to a consultant who then can send you for a scan.
